Massive Sketch Madness

Those who know me know that I love to draw! Besides my family, it's been the one great constant in my life. Ever since I can remember I have loved to draw! The first Sketch that I can recall really liking was one I did of He-Man when I was in kindergarten. I thought it was so cool that I could take a crayon put down some marks and be proud of what I was able to accomplish. Fast forward many years to the present and I still get the same satisfaction. I love to draw! It's a big part of who I am. Rarely will you find me without my drawing gear and something to draw on. I wish that I had some of those very first drawings from when I was a kid they would be great to see! I know that my mom still has a few I'll track them down for you to see. Anyways have a great day and keep on sketching!!!

Brain Fart Sketching!

We've often herd the term "writers block". Is there such a thing with artists? I'm going to say definitely YES! There have been numerous times that I have sat down to start an assignment and had nothing.

An english professor of mine would often have us do these "free write" assignments. For these assignments we were asked to write "garbage". It didn't have to make sense or be cohesive we just had to write "junk" as she would call it. We would do this for around five to ten minutes and try to write as much as we could. I was amazed at how fast we were able to come up with ideas, that, in my opinion, were quite good.

 I think that the same activity could applied for us artists. If you can't think of an idea just draw "junk". It doesn't have to be pretty or make any sense but keep your pencil to the paper and do not... I repeat do not erase! Keep the pencil, marker or whatever you are using moving. The sketches can be of whatever... just keep drawing. You will be amazed at what you come up with! Lets call this drawing exercise "Brain Fart Sketching".

More Sketch Madness!!!

I really love to draw! Most of my life I have had a pencil in my hand scribbling on something. When I was a little kid I was drawing so much that my parents bought me a large roll of paper. It had to be around10 inches in diameter and I went through that pretty quick. I wish that I had some more drawings from when I was a child. I have a box full of old retired sketchbooks from the last ten years or so. It's fun to go back through them every now and a again and see how I've grown as an artist. So keep those sketchbooks they are like an artistic journal! Maybe I'll scan some of those old drawings and post them up. What do you think?
