Daily Sketch: Lion

Today's Sketch Dailies topic was Mufasa from Disney's The Lion King.  Rather than rehash Disney's fantastic design I thought it would be fun to a study/mild caricature of a lion with similar coloring to Mufasa. It's not super tight but it was fun to use some large brushes and lay down some Pixels. This panting took around 30 minutes in Photoshop and was painted on a Wacom Cintiq 24 HD.

Sir Lancelot!

Today's post is kind of inspired by two different sketch/ illustration challenges. The Illustration Friday topic for this week is "Treasure" and one of the Sketch Dailies topics earlier this week was "Lancelot". So I thought it'd be fun to combine the two subjects in to one Illustration.

Here we have Sir Lancelot posing with his fresh kill, admiring his trusty sword and contemplating the  riches and treasures awaiting him for his gallantry in defeating the dragon.

Iron Giant for Sketch Dailies...

Sketch Dailies is a feed on Instagram and twitter that posts a new topic every day and then 1000's of wonderful artists sketch their interpretation of that topic. It's a great challenge and a good way to combat artist block! Today's topic was one of my all time favorite animated movies The Iron Giant!

I've been really into sketching birds lately and I though this was a good and funny way to fuse a bird and the sketch dailies topic together. I know the bird is a little big in comparison to the robot, but hey that what you call artistic licensing. This painting took about an hour and half in photoshop.
